Monster 797 Ride review
I think it was probably the third roundabout that I swept through when I finally understood the Ducati 797 Monster. Up until then, I had a preconceived notion that the bike was entry level. I wondered to myself why anyone would opt for the 797 when the 821 was only a bit more money. I wondered if I would enjoy riding it.
The bike itself is simplicity defined. Sure, you don't have all the "bells and whistles" that are on its bigger siblings. But you don't really need them if you consider the bike for what it is, a fantastic urban blaster. Do you need rider modes to distract you as you're slicing through traffic? No. Do you need 100+ horsepower to get through big city traffic? No. What you do need is a light, nimble, easily flickable machine with very linear power delivery, and the 797 Monster delivers.
I found myself taking a longer route home than normal on this ride. I found myself more surprised with every turn how much I really liked this bike, and I finally realized that the 797 Monster is quite probably a lot of people's perfect motorcycle, only they just don't know it yet.
